Each week (but never really on Friday) I try to join the Five Minute Friday community and write for 5 minutes flat on the one-word prompt given for that week. Lots of fun and a little scary to be so vulnerable. This week's word: Doubt.

Doubt. It's the glue that keeps a young child's feet firmly planted on the edge of a pool while I parent beckons them to jump in, "Don't worry, I'll catch you!" Suddenly that child who you were sure just minutes ago was going to jump in the pool without you and without a second thought is now paralyzed with fear, unable to take a jump into your safe arms.
As a parent I think, "good grief, what have I done to make this child doubt I will catch them?!" But as a child of God....I get it.
You want me to do what?! The longer I stand on what I assume is solid ground and try to reason through all the scenarios of what could go wrong, the more doubt pulls me down to stay right where I am.
But then, remember... remember Who He Is. Remember all the times He has made good on His promises. Indeed, "'tis so sweet to trust in Jesus" just as the old hymn says. It's sweet, like the thrill of plunging into a deep, cool pool, and safely emerging within loving arms and a smile that says, "you did it!"
